As you may have heard in the news, new proposed Warrant of Fitness changes will come into effect 1 Jan 2015. The main change affecting regular car owners is that cars first registered in or after Year 2000 will require a Warrant of Fitness every year. While on the surface this is a welcome cost reduction for motorists, we welcome these changes with caution.

What you need to be aware of

One year can be a long time, even for a well maintained and serviced car. Just like before as the car owner as well as driver you are responsible for safety checks on your car. Overlooking a safety aspect on your car could possibly lead to:

  • Your insurance refusing to pay or you being directly liable in case of an accident if your car was not 100% roadworthy.
  • A safety issue being discovered by a police vehicle check - these are explicitly being widened and extended as part of this law change.
  • Your company being liable under Health and Safety legislation in case something occurred with an employee using your company car.

How we can help

We have developed a simple, cost effective Safety Check to make sure your safety issues with your vehicle are picked up. It consists of the following items:

  • Check steering and suspension
  • Check Tyre Condition
  • Check Brake operation
  • Check Lights and adjust if necessary

This service is competitively priced at $30.-- including GST
